By Rob Bickert
Greetings again my fellow Corvette enthusiasts. Well here we are at the end of April, one quarter of the year gone and what a ride so far. We have spent time with loved ones, showed off our cars and club to the general masses, did some good for helpless kids, ate sea food, supported a sister club and went to the races. And we’re not done yet; there are still 8 more months left to this year. Remember, if you have an idea for an event talk to Bob Brody, he can guide you on how to schedule, set up and post your event. He is the keeper of the club social calendar. Where else can you do so much with so many friends? We are truly blessed to have such a great group of people to share our passion with, now to the tune of 350 paid members. It is hard to believe we are in the midst of an economic recession. This is the greatest organization I have ever been part of and I am proud to say, “I am a MEMBER and the President of the Corvette Club of Richmond.” I hope each of you feels the same way and you should. It’s because of you and your open, friendly, helpful attitude and our numerous club events that make others want to be a part of our club. Speaking of club events, June 5th is the date of the 14th annual CCR Corvette Round-Up and as in the past several years, this event will again be held at Zip Products in Mechanicsville, Va. Butch Jones will once again chair this event. This is our clubs PREMIER EVENT and therefore encourage all members to support the club and participate. This is a Show-N-Shine event. We have Vettes around the Commonwealth and surrounding states, some highly customized, some rare ones, some not so rare and some just daily drivers but all of them special to their owner. So, wash the Vette, grab the bag chairs and come join your fellow Corvette owners for a day of food, friends, music, prizes and just plain old fashion fun. Don’t forget to save room for cake cause it ain’t a birthday without a party and it ain’t a party without cake. So remember to mark your calendar, June 26th is the 50th Birthday Party for the Corvette Club of Richmond and this is the event you don’t want to miss. There will food, cake, live music, Corvettes and plenty of friends. The place is the Sheraton Park South on Midlothian Turnpike. Music will be provided by The Hubcaps. I wish to thank all the members who have hosted or have offered to host the best kept secret of this club, that being the after meeting party. As the club continues to grow, more people have discovered this great relaxed social gathering. Most slots have been filled for this year there is only one spot available. Check with Bob Brody if you’re interested in hosting the November After Meeting Party, remember if this year doesn’t work for you schedule your party for next year….it’s never too early. As the club continues to grow it becomes hard to remember everyone’s name, so I ask that you wear your name badges to every club function. It helps those of us who can’t remember faces to put names with them. If you need a new name badge or would like a second one, please see Earl Smithson and for a nominal fee you will no longer be just a face in the crowd. In closing I would like to remind you all to drive safely, share the road and “Save the Wave“.
