Roundup Windup

The first week of June is always a tense time, continually watching the weather, attending to last minute details and emailing back and forth with Phyllis Robinson and Mike Berg as to the number of pre-registrations we had. Even though each year we have about 50 or so pre-registrations as of Friday and usually get that many more at Saturday registration, I still get nervous. This year we had 53 pre-registrations. On Saturday we closed registration with 102 Corvettes registered for the event. There were an additional 30 or so that were in the spectator parking lot and three cars in the Car Corral (for sale.) As our club grows and since this is the biggest money making event for the club, we need more participation. I hope that next year more members will bring their cars out to support the club. This year the Roundup Committee tried some different things. Some worked and some did not. Even though this is an annual event, there are changes each year and we are constantly learning from each Roundup.I would like to thank the entire Roundup Committee for their help and support this year. The committee members are:
  • Rob Bickert – Co-Chairman
  • Phyllis Robinson – Pre-Registration
  • Jeff Wilson – On-Site Registration
  • Ed Nalbach – Parking
  • Cecile Custer – Food
  • John Williams – Sanitary Facilities
  • Sue Ann Bickert – Raffle
  • Ray Wells – Judging
  • Mike Berg – Finance
  • Andy Young & Justin Abbott – Zip Products Representatives
  • Dan Raidabaugh – Trophies, Dash Plaques,Silent Auction, Goody Bags and Supplier Solicitations
The Roundup could not function without volunteers on event day. These individuals did an outstanding  job this year. They are:
  • Registration: Peggy Maloy, Joyce Bateman, Gail Murman, Liz Jones, Bob Brody
  • Parking: Kirby Montgomery,  Bruce Bugay,  Butch Bateman
  • Silent Auction: Liz Jones
  • Raffle: Linda Smithson,  Jo Chesser,  Mary Wells
  • Vote Tallying: Earl Smithson,   John Lyster
  • Cleanup: Barry Waller

If I missed anyone who helped I apologize.  We sincerely thank all who helped with this year’s event. A special thanks to Terry Corbin for bringing the banners, cones, vests, flags, trash cans and other necessities, Barry Waller for delivering the tents, tables and chairs both to the event and back to their respective owners, Ed Custer for bringing the chiller fan to help keep us cool and Dan Raidabaugh for taking on several critical tasks which enhanced the outcome of the event in addition to his normal duties of securing the trophies and dash plaques. Dan also contacted suppliers and potential vendors for goody bag items, silent auction and raffle items and had all of the items delivered to his home. He also hosted the goody bag stuffing party at this home and delivered the goody bags, auction and raffle items as well as the trophies to Zip Products before the event.

Although there was no rain and it was not as HOT as two years ago, it was warm. The weather forecast was for evening showers and the weatherman made good on his prediction. The event ended, cleanup was complete, Liz, her sister, her husband and I went to dinner and I got home without putting the top up. So it was a good day.

On behalf of the Roundup Committee I want to thank all who participated and helped with the 14th Annual Corvette Roundup, especially our sister Corvette clubs.  We also want to thank our vendors, Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que, Ice CreamKing, Tonda Enterprises/BG Products (for providing the fuel service demonstration) and as always Zip Products for their continued support.

As the day wound down, it was time for the awards. Again this year we had an outside panel of judges. These judges were technicians from local General Motors dealerships. We would like to thank Tim Danielson from Heritage Chevrolet, Robert Timper from Strosnider Chevrolet, Chris Duke and Trey Hicks from Capital Chevrolet, Buick, GMC.

And the awards go to….Roundup6-5-10047.jpg
