2nd Annual Memorial Day Parade – Recap

On Memorial Day the skies were clear, sunny and warm for the 2nd Annual Memorial Day Parade hosted by the American Legion Sandston, VA Post 242. Tim Evans, the Parade Chairman personally invited CCR members back to be one of just 80 units for their 2nd Annual Memorial Day Parade. Cecile and I were the first to arrive at Henrico Vol. Rescue Squad to pre-stage for the parade. It was exciting to watch the arrival of over 20 Corvettes representing four generations of America’s Sports Car. We departed the Rescue Squad as a unit and headed to the official staging area at Seven Pines Elementary School. We were greeted at Seven Pines by member Adam Wallen w/ Anita Prasad in his 69 and Sean Dolan in his 2000 convertible.

Like last year the theme of the parade was “Salute Our Heroes” Everyone did an amazing job of decoration their cars patriotically. Members were well prepared this year, shared decorations and helping each other with decorating their cars.

When the parade rolled the Corvette Club of Richmond was represented in two units of the parade. The first was Unit #3 the USO, with Lori Dolan in her RED convertible and Sean Dolan in his BLUE convertible. Lori and Sean had a returning active duty Veteran proudly riding on their tonneau cover. And, the CCR Unit #9 represented by 21 glistening Vettes decked out in American flags, red, white and blue. There were lots of spectators (1600 estimated) of all ages along the parade route including numerous Veterans. The crowd waved American flags and cheered enthusiastically as we roared by. Along the parade route, boys & girls of all ages were picking out their favorites and dreaming about which Corvette they would like to own one day.

Thank you to the American Legion Post 242 Sandston for inviting us back to participate in your salute to America’s Veterans. Also, thank you to the USO for inviting us to escort two of their Soldiers. It was a special honor. Most importantly, our heartfelt thanks goes to all of the CCR members who gave up a few hours of their Memorial Day to proudly represent the Club and America’s Sports Car in this salute of America’s Veterans. Photos of the parade are posted on the clubs web site. See you next year!
