There’s still plenty of time to sign up for our 5th time cruising to Pigeon Forge, TN. This cruise will be a great get away weekend for anyone who enjoys mountains, shopping and great looking cars. Every year, the weekend after Labor Day, thousands of street rods, classics and special interest cars descend on this area for the ultimate weekend cruise.  We will be leaving Richmond on Thursdaymorning, Sept. 9th, spend the weekend, and depart Pigeon Forge on Monday morning. We’ll spend our time enjoying the mountains, local activities and some of the best restaurants in the area. And let’s not forget all the fantastic cars that will be totally surrounding us.

We will meet on highway 64 at the newly re-opened rest stop west of 288 at 7:30 for an 8:00 departure. We should arrive in Pigeon Forge at approximately 5:00 PM, depending on traffic. We will make a lunch stop at exit 72 on highway 81 at around noon, as well as necessity stops for all. As always, speed limits will be observed.

Pigeon Forge is located just seven miles from Gatlinburg, gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. For those who have never been there, this quaint area is booming with fun things to do. Home of Dollywood, the Dixie Stampede, and numerous other shows and attractions, there is literally something for everyone. Every evening, people break out their lawn chairs and line both sides of the strip to watch all the cars cruise by. It’s a cruise like no other. You can cruise the drag right along with them, or just park and watch the cars go by. It’s also fun to walk the strip, shopping and gazing at all the great looking cars sitting in parking lots everywhere. It’s like the worlds largest free car show.

We have a great itinerary planned with lots of activities for everyone to enjoy.  We will be staying at Whispering Pines Condominiums in downtown Pigeon Forge. For reservations call: 800-429-4361. Hurry though, because rooms for that weekend go fast. Double up and save money.

If everyone is up for it, we’ll again do the Tail of the Dragon. If any of you haven’t driven this grueling mountain road, it connects the western part of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee with North Carolina. It’s officially called Highway 129. There are 318 curves in 11 miles and it’s one unbelievable ride in a Corvette. For those not so inclined, (no pun intended) there’s plenty of other stuff to do in the area. (Think “shopping” ladies. Think “fast cars & pretty wimin” guys)

One evening we plan to drive the historic area of Cades Cove in the National Park, where there are plenty of deer and other wild life almost within touching distance of your car. You may even catch a glimpse of a bear or two. It’s a ten mile circle with a 10 MPH speed limit. Very enjoyable.

We plan to do a horseback riding excursion in the mountains again this year, for those who would like to join us. The excursions are well guided and the horses are gentle and calm. It’s a great way to see some of the park and get a close and personal view of this beautiful area.

Mary and I will again be hosting the hospitality suite each evening for cocktails, munchies and fellowship before we go to dinner. This is a great way to end each day and swap tales about our experiences each day.

So, join us if you can. Most of those who went last time are returning again this year. That should tell you something about this fun getaway weekend! Sign up soon, we hope you can join us on this great cruise!
