Wow, June 21st already. What happen to spring? I think this has got have been the busiest spring to date. I have spent more time on the road on the weekends this spring than I have in the seven years we’ve been members, thank god for grandsons or my grass would cover the car. But I am not ready to stop just yet! Sue Ann and I have just returned from a fantastic weekend in Floyd and Roanoke which you can read about inside this month’s addition. We are planning another trip in August to Smith Mountain Lake for some wine tasting and great food.
Well another Round-Up is behind us. Thank you Zip Products for allowing us to hold this event in your parking lot again. Thank you Butch for organizing this year’s show again, I know it takes a lot of planning and a strong team. So, thank you to everyone who gave of their time to make this show a success. And a special THANK YOU to our Vice President for filling in for me as I recovered from surgery. 103 shiny Corvettes on a June afternoon, I would have liked to have been there, but they tell me the turnout was great. Once again many of our sister clubs participated and to them I say, “you are always welcome in Richmond and we enjoy your company.
As I said, this has been a very busy spring with so many wonderful events to be part of. We are on the threshold of summer and there still plenty of dates open for that favorite road trip or restaurant if you would like to share with your Corvette brethren. We are working on some exciting events for mid-summer and early fall. So don’t wait too long, contact Bob Brody with your idea and date.
It’s almost time to celebrate the Independence of this great country and as we do I would ask that you all take a moment to remember the brave men and women that have given their lives to keep this great country free. Please be safe out there on the roads, on the water and at your back yard gatherings. There are a lot of new traffic laws that go into affect July 1st and I understand there are some stiff fees to go along with the new laws. Don’t be the first on your block to test them out. Remember to drink responsibly and use a designated driver. I look forward to seeing everyone safe at our July 9th meeting on the west end.
I know it’s still early in the year, too early to start thinking about election of officers you may think. Well think about how fast the first half of this has gone by and you will realize that November will be here before you know it. I know that some of you may have thoughts about running for an E-Board position but may be concerned about your skills or the time but I will tell you this. Each of has a unique set of skills that’s what makes us human and this club great. It’s the members that give unselfishly of their time and of themselves. Sue Ann and I have served on the board of this club for nearly six years and I am proud of what we have done but I’ve about run of ideas. It’s time for some fresh ideas and as for the time. If you’re doing something you enjoy the time you spend on it doesn’t matter, you get out of it what you put in.
As you’re out on the highways and byways of our great state, remember the tradition and: ”Save the Wave“.
