MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

So has everyone had enough of the heat?  Its only July and we have seen some of the hottest temperatures ever recorded this month, can’t wait to see what August has in store for us.  I’m hoping for a break from the heat, I know I’m ready for some cooler weather but enough about the weather.  I hope you have taken advantage of the sunshine and taken that trip to the mountains or the beach behind the wheel of the great American Sports car.
It has been a busy spring and early summer but Sue Ann and I have taken some time to relax and I hope you have too.  But don’t get too relaxed because the second half of the summer is starting to take shape and the events are filling in the calendar.  Looks like there will be two trips to Smith Mountain Lake this year, the first will be in August and the second in October.  Corvettes at Carlisle at the end of this month than right into September with the Trip to Pigeon Forge, Horsepower Challenge/Christmas in September then onto SML for Vettes on the Point.  We will once again give back to the community by having a food drive to help those less fortunate than ourselves; we’ll go to sample some wine, eat some oysters and maybe race some vipers. Cap it all off with the annual Christmas Party and a trip to the beach. So as you can see there is plenty of fun to be had as a member of the “Greatest Corvette Club in the World”.
This is one of the most socially active Corvette clubs on the east coast and it is because of you, the members of the Corvette Club of Richmond.  You are the driving force behind this party.  You continue to come up with new fun things to do.  Take a moment to look at it, we go on week long cruises to tropical islands, we go on overnight trips to the mountains, we have gone to the races, we have done road rallies.  This social drive is why we are 50 years old and 375 members strong.  I am humbled to be in your presence and proud to be the president of such a great organization.  We do some great things for the community, the club and the Corvette community.  This is more than just a car club, it’s more like a family.
Back on the home front, the banner that will hang at the National Corvette Museum for the next year has been proofed and sent to the flagmaker.  There will be a ceremony Labor Day weekend in Bowling Green, a kind of “changing of the guard” as they remove the old banners and replace them with the new ones.  If there is anyone that would like to be part of that pageantry I would check with the museum for hotels in the area.  I know that Barry Roper talked about leading a group out in 2011 when the banners are removed but to my knowledge no one has expressed an interest in ODing this event.  If someone would like to step up I’m sure others would join you on the trip.  It’s not too late to get a group together.
Well as I close for this month I would ask you all to raise that hand when you see another Corvette.  This greeting is a tradition and just like secret handshakes, it is a part of the Corvette Brotherhood.  Drive carefully, Drink responsibility and …. Save the Wave“.
