The Viper Club of America has once again issued a “Horsepower Challenge” to the Corvette Club of Richmond.  They want revenge for the two straight losses.  Well, in good sprit and fair play I have accepted that challenge, and I know the pride of this club that WE CAN MAKE THREE IN A ROW!
The “Horsepower Challenge” is very simple.  The event is the “Oldies but Goodies Classic Cruisers’ 7th Annual Christmas in September Car Show,” which is for the benefit of the Children’s Hospital.  It is on Saturday, September 18th from 10am to 4pm (registration opens at 8am), rain or shine, at the Children’s Hospital, 2924 Brook Road, Richmond.  As in the past, members of the Viper Club of America who register for the show will add up the published horsepower, or if they have a dyno slip, the horsepower from the slip with a 15% allowance for driveline loss.  The members of the Corvette Club of Richmond will do the same.  The club with the most horsepower wins the trophy.  Remember, one stock Viper is 500HP and from what we’ve seen in the past, there aren’t many stock Vipers.
In addition, there will be a show within the show.  The Vipers will have awards exclusively for VCA members. CCR will also have three awards exclusively for CCR members, best antique, best stock & best custom. This year, instead of our two clubs judging each others cars we will piggy back the participant judging that the Oldies But Goodies Classic Cruizers is doing and use that voting to select the judged cars from our clubs.
The fee to enter your Vette is $15 for advance registration (click here for form and instructions) or $20 the day of the event, this fee benefits the Children’s Hospital. Clubs and Individuals may donate additional items for the children such as: Gift cards (WalMart, Target, K-Mart); tickets for movies, The Science Museum, The Children’s Museum, King’s Dominion, or Busch Gardens, etc.; toys, games, or DVD’s.  Of course, cash or check donations are also acceptable and checks should be made to the CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK.
The Viper Club is recommending an unwrapped toy for a child as your admission.  Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 donations. There will also be a Club Participation Award, Directors Choice Award, and a Top 25 awards.  There will be live music once again provided by LITTLE ROCK BAND; live and silent auctions; and visits by Santa.  This should be a fun event, as well as a challenge.
