MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

By Rob Bickert

I hope you all have seized the opportunity to get out and enjoy the highways and byways of this summer.  We have enjoyed Tubing on the James, a Beach Bashat Smith Mountain Lake and what looks like an annual event at Bailey’s Pub. Thank you Bailey’s forinviting us to display our Corvettes and gather with friends for an afternoon of food, spirits and fellowship. Let me not forget my fellow CCR members for making this first cruise-in a success, you have opened the door to a promising relationshipwith Bailey’s.

So ready for more?  Autumn has always been filled with as many activities as the summer and this year is no exception. Still to come in September 9th – 13th, Ray & Mary will take us once again to Pigeon Forge and a trip to the Tail of the Dragon. The following weekend, Friday the 17th, spend a night at the Drive-In Movies. The next day, Saturday the 18th, I ask EVERY CCR member to plan on being at the Children’s Hospital for the 3rd Annual Viper vs. Corvette Horsepower Challenge.  Admission cost is adonation to the Childrens Hospital.  The Viper Club of America has once again put a call out to all Viper owners on the east coast to attend this event. We have managed to “over power” them two years in a row and this year they have vowed to bring out the BIG GUNS (the 1200hp Vipers) to show us they are “King of the Hill”.

As we head into October, the Dolans & Brody’s  willlead us to Bedford and Smith Mountain Lake for Vettes on the Point again.  This is a fun weekend and again we are challenged by our sister clubs to see if we can retain our position as the club with the most participation. The following weekend on the 16th is the annual Heritage Fall Corvette Show and as we did last year, we tie the show into our Feed Richmond Food Drive on the same day.  Heritage will be a drop off spot for food throughout the month.

Fall is the best time of the year for a Winery Cruise or a cruise through the country side to see all of natures beautiful colors, so why should this October be any different. Our fall wine cruisers will head for New Kent Winery led by the Brody’s on October 24th. The fall is prefect time to cruise the surrounding country side and take in all the colors of the fall foliage. So what better time to go for a drive?

November’s shaping up to be a great finish to the Fall Cruise Season.  First up is the Urbana Oyster Festival on the 5th of November.  This is a great fall festival in Urbana where good food abounds.  If you love seafood and oysters, this is the place to be.  This event is a Friday event so mark your calendars.  Followed the next day, November 6th by a trip to the Williamsburg Winery.

But wait, we’re not finished yet, we still have December with the annual Christmas Party on December 5th. So as you can see, with the events still to come.  This is not the time to think about putting the Vette in storage.  Uncover the Vette, warm up the engine, there is still plenty cruising yet to do.  So “GET IN, SIT DOWN, HOLD ON and remember when you see that Corvette sharing the road… Save the Wave

And remember… The Corvette Club of Richmond  is more than just a car club.  We are…… ”The Best Corvette Club…..In the WORLD”.
