The river is NOT like what you see when you look at Richmond’s James River!  There’s nothing to be afraid of.  Life jackets are free for those who can’t swim, but usually we are in VERY shallow (butts bumping the rocks in the river shallow) water.  We get rope to tie our tubes to our cooler tubes and to our friends.  We board a bus at Hatton’s Ferry, are driven about 3 miles up river, and enter the river for a 3 hour float.  Midway we stop at a sandy beach area for lunch. Here’s the deal.  We meet at 9 a.m. at the Goochland rest area on I-64 West at mile marker 168 (just like last year and depart at 9:15.  It’s about an hour drive and we’ll make one stop along the way.  Pack a lunch and your beverages of choice (no glass) in a cooler.  Everyone MUST wear old tennis shoes or boat shoes (flip flops & sandals don’t count).  No shoes, no tubing trip for you.  Invite friends and family members…drive your OTHER vehicles if you need to.  The cost is $22 per person for your inner tube and $8 for a cooler tube.
