Our next meeting is on Friday August 9th starting at 7:30 at the United Methodist Church of Virginia at the Cross Ridge shopping Center in Glen Allen, Virginia.

Many members will arrive at the meeting place from 7:00 pm to 7:25 pm before the meeting. The West End meetings are now held at the Virginia United Methodist Center in Glen Allen on Staples Mill Road. There are many good parking spaces available. No alcoholic beverages may be consumed on the property of the Virginia United Methodist Center. Directions are as follows:

FROM I-64 WESTBOUND (FROM TIDEWATER) Take the I-295/US-60 exit, exit number 200, towards Washington/Rocky Mt. NC Merge onto I-295 N. for approximately 28 miles Take the US-33 EAST exit, exit number 49B, toward Richmond Merge onto Staples Mill Rd/US-33 E for 1.75 miles; Conference Center on right at CrossRidge.

** I have been having issues with our photo gallery, Coppermine that has not been adding photos correctly. I am not sure if this is a system wide issue or just a problem with photos I have gotten lately. I also use Coppermine Photo Gallery on my own website and I haven’t had any problems with it there. I will look into this. **

Meeting Directions for Southside Meetings

Many members will arrive at the meeting place from 7:00 pm to 7:25 pm before the meeting. Southside meetings are held at the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services, Smith-Wagner Building (in the Chesterfield County Complex at 9501 Lucy Corr Circle). NO alcoholic drinks may be consumed on the property.

Traveling from the North

• Take I-95 to the exit for Route 288.
• Take 288 and go approximately 7 miles to Route 10 East (Ironbridge Road) and exit to Chesterfield.
• Turn left at first stoplight onto Courthouse Road.
• Turn right onto Government Center Parkway.
• Turn left onto Lucy Corr Circle.
• The Wagner Building is directly in front of you.

Travelling from Southside:

• Take Powhite across James River ($.50 toll) to Chippenham Parkway.
• Proceed on Chippenham Parkway south, passing Routes 60 and 360 to Route 10 (Ironbridge Road).
• Exit right to Chesterfield and travel about six miles to Courthouse Road.
• Turn left at stoplight onto Courthouse Road.
• Turn right onto Government Center Parkway.
• Turn left onto Lucy Corr Circle.
• The Wagner Building is directly in front of you.

We have done this event for several years and I’m GUARANTEEING that if you go with us, you’ll have so much fun you’ll wish the event were LONGER!

Wear your bathing suit and a maybe pair of shorts (women). The tube  rental place requires us to wear water shoes or old tennis shoes (no  flip flops or sandals) in the river. Bring your sun block, dry change of clothes and towel. Pack a picnic lunch and your favorite beverage  (no glass allowed) in a cooler. We float down river about 3 hours.

The water is not deep and there are no rapids to fear. This event is open to everyone, so if you have friends who are interested, please invite them.

We meet at 9 a.m. at the rest area on I-64 West just outside of Richmond (just like last year) and depart at 9:15. It’s about an hour drive and we’ll make one stop along the way. Tube cost is $20 per person and $8 for your cooler tube. Pay me at the June meeting or send me your check (payable to me) as I must mail our money in prior to our trip. Call me if you have questions (346-5266).
